Sustainability is at the core of Matkahuolto’s operations. Sustainability cuts across our entire organisation and is seamlessly integrated into our everyday practices. Our work is guided by our Sustainability Programme, which was launched in 2020 and updated in autumn 2024.
We promote sustainable parcel and digital transport services and develop our sustainability work in close cooperation with our employees and partners. The focus of our parcel services is on seamless cooperation with our nationwide partner network and on our environmentally friendly transport solutions. Together with transport operators, we have been promoting public transport for 90 years.
Our goal is to halve emissions from all our operations and be carbon neutral by 2030.
Our climate goals
Our sustainability work is based on our ambitious sustainability objectives, which we pursue through concrete, verifiable and measurable actions. We promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals in our own operations and throughout our value chain as part of our sustainability programme. We have set science-based climate targets, which were endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in September 2023. Our goal is to halve emissions from all our operations and be carbon neutral by 2030.
To support our work, we have drawn up a climate roadmap that guides us consistently towards our sustainability objectives. Our climate roadmap identifies 44 emission reduction measures.

Matkahuolto’s sustainability programme is based on a relevance analysis through which we have identified the most important sustainability themes and objectives for us, as well as indicators to monitor their implementation. The relevance analysis identified the following four main themes, which form the backbone of our sustainability programme.
- We look after our employees
- We are an attractive partner and service provider
- We mitigate climate change and prevent habitat loss
- Our activities benefit society at large
Our Annual reporting and Sustainability reporting 2023
We report to our stakeholders on the implementation of our sustainability programme annually as part of our Annual Report and Sustainability Report. Our sustainability reporting is based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting standard and is verified by a third party.
Our sustainability reporting will change with the introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in 2025, and with this in mind we have already started to refine our sustainability reporting.
Annual Reports and Sustainability Reports
We report annually on our operations and their financial development in our combined annual report and sustainability reports, which include information on our business and its development, our strategy and the sustainability of our operations.

New strategy
In our strategy, we have encapsulated our core purpose, our brand promise, our strategic vision for 2027, our key strategic themes, our values and our leadership promises.

Our sustainability work is progressing
We are working in a systematic and structured way to tackle climate change in line with our Climate Roadmap prepared in 2022. At the end of September 2023, we received approval for our Science Based Targets commitment. According to our commitment, we base our climate goals on the latest climate science and support the Paris Climate Agreement’s objective of limiting global temperature increase to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
